Christmas card art contest winners, Jennifer Frost and Tina Lefever, accepted a giant check for $1000 on behalf of Special Olympics York County at the 27th Annual Robert H. Griffith Holiday Classic on December 29, 2015.

SOYC Atheletes Participate in 2014 USA Games

More than 200 Special Olympics Pennsylvania (SOPA) athletes and 70 coaches and staff participated in the 2014 Special Olympics USA Games held in New Jersey from June 14-21. Members of Team Pennsylvania represented more than 30 city/county SOPA programs and were among approximately 3,500 athletes from every U.S. state who competed at the Games and showcased their awe-inspiring abilities.

Soccer athletes Loretta Claiborne, Colt Day, Marshall Geesey, Ryan Leathery, Corey Markle, Bryan Miller, Michael Plappert, and Matt Fraticelli and Bocce athletes Trent Bupp, Kristyn Landis, and Jennifer Laudeman were part of Team Pennsylvania.

Leg Up Farm and Special Olympics Pennsylvania partner to launch
Equestrian Program in York County (PDF)

This program will provide year-round training to athletes and will include an event at the Summer Games in June 2015 at Penn State.

Special Olympics York County Athletes Honored by PA State Senate

On January 15, 2014, 8 Special Olympics York County Soccer Athletes, 3 Special Olympics York County Bocce players, and 3 Soccer Coaches were invited to be honored and recognized at a session of the Pennsylvania State Senate held at the Capitol building in Harrisburg, PA. All 11 athletes and 3 coaches were recognized for receiving a Gold medal at the State Special Olympic tournament held at Villanova University this past November. These individuals were then selected to compete in the 2014 Special Olympics USA Games as members of Team Pennsylvania. These games will be held from June 14 - June 21, 2014 in Princeton, N.J. All athletes and coaches were recognized by Senator Jay Costa and Senator Rob Teplitz. The athletes and coaches were introduced to the Senate by Senator Teplitz. Each athlete and coach received a Congratulations recognition certificate signed by Senator Costa and each athlete and coach received a congratulations certificate from the Pennsylvania Senate signed by Megan Consedine, Secretary of the Senate. A private group tour of the Capitol building was also provided.
